On November 18, 1989 people gathered in the yard of farmstead Kalna Ziedi in Aizkraukle (then Stuchka) to open the museum building in Aizkraukle (then called Stuchka) with the exhibition To my Latvia: the folk belts made by Jadviga Kluša and photos by Jānis Tālbergs. In January 1990 visitors could acquaint with the first permanent exhibition The district during the period of Latvian independence. For more than twenty years now, the Aizkraukle History and Museum Art in calls Kalna Ziedi its home.
The farmstead Kalna Ziedi was situated on the shore of the river Daugava and the house was purchased by the Aizkraukle blacksmith Jacob Dannenfeld from the Aizkraukle manor in the 20th century. Jacob Dannenfeld had two daughters of whom the elder daughter Zelma inherited the farmstead Kalna Ziedi. During World War I the original house on the shore of the Daugava was burned down. A new dwelling house and outbuildings were built opposite the ancestral hillfort. By the 1980s only the dwelling house remained and this building was donated to the town by its last resident Vilhelmīne Vabule (1901-1988).
At present the museum is offering the opportunity to get acquainted with the permanent exhibition The tales of destiny from the shores of the Daugava and temporary exhibitions.
